Young childrens brains are d esigned to  pay attention  to language cues and develop language skills, so they can learn two languages almost as easily as they can learn one.Bilingual children use language in purpose-driven ways with a focus on communication rather than getting it right.In her book  Raising Bilingual Children,  Carey Myles  notes that during everyday conversations, caregivers naturally focus on the message of childrens language more than in how its delivered. Read or watch videos about things that interest youâ€"whether thats  sewing, baseball  or woodworkingâ€"and make friends with native speakers who share your interests so you can  practice speaking  while going for a run or knitting together.Kids Writing vs. SpeakingLearning to read is different from learning to speak.Bilingual children learn to speak through everyday immersion, but they need explicit instruction in order to learn to read and write in more than one  language.Children learn to read best when they have an understanding and familiarity with the  culture  and context associated with a piece of writing.  Schema theory suggests that children who arent familiar with the context may have trouble making accurate predictions about what will come next in a story, and being able to make predictions is important to reading success.Consider the phrase, Dumbo is an elephant  with big ears. A child whos familiar with the story of Dumbo  can quickly read this sentence.  Even if the child has never seen the  words elephant and ears, he can make quick guesses about what words they might be, since he knows that Dumbo is an e lephant and that big ears are his defining feature.On the other hand, a child who doesnt know anything about Dumbo will have more trouble understanding this sentence. Thats why its important to  learn how the grammar structures work in your target language. This will help you be conscious of when you need to do things differently. And if youre not comfortable with grammar in general, consider getting  a book about your native languages grammar  so you can understand how it  compares to the new grammar youre learning.Stay silent for a little while, if you need to. Frustrating as it may be, its normal to understand whats being said to you but be incapable of producing a fluent response. Recognize that your speaking capacity will lag behind your listening capacity, and pat yourself on the back for the excellent listening comprehension skills youre developing! Just dont stay silent for too long. Practice is th e only way to develop the abilityâ€"and confidenceâ€"to say exactly what you want to say.Children Are ResilientPart of the reason children are so good at language learning is because they arent afraid of what others think. Theyre curious about everything and enthusiastic to try out the new words they hear.Children also use language as a tool to  achieve goals,  rather than an end in and of itself. They dont care about learning to speak Italian fluently or learning to say hello in Japanese. They simply want something and will use whatever method they can to communicate their needs and desires. A child is highly motivated to speak when he needs to do so to  tell someone he  wants a drink of milk or get a toy his older brother is playing with.What this means for adults:Dont be afraid to make mistakes. Introvert Whisperer / 5 Ways You May Be Creating Your Own Job Stress - Introvert Whisperer 5 Ways You May Be Creating Your Own Job Stress When we think of work-life balance we often focus on ways to reduce the stress that our job produces.   The thinking is: if we can reduce the stress in the job then our life improves.   Good thinking.   Our job is part of our life so the more things you can do to make that part of your life work well, the better.   The problem is, many people do things to actually create the stress they are trying to deal with and don’t even realize it.   Work comes with enough stressors like deadlines, unrealistic expectations from management and surprises of all sorts.   We don’t need to add to the pile.   As with all changes we make, you must first be aware of the problem before you can do anything about it.   If you’re dealing with job stress consider these things as low-hanging fruit to quickly do away with:   1-Procrastination.    If you are the type that waits until the last minute to complete an assignment, you’re in for automatic stress.   The problem with waiting too long is that you can never predict other things that may come along to also fill up your time.   You also may discover the resources you need aren’t there when you are tight for time.           Action to take: When you get an assignment, start it then.   Get ahead of the power curve.   2-Take on too much.   If you’re the type that sees all kinds of problems and tasks to tackle, you may be taking on so much that you are creating stress.   You may need to adjust your appetite.   Sure it’s fun to do all of these things but not at the expense of creating stress.           Action to take: Sit down and prioritize your work.   Be willing to cut a few things for a while.   3-Over react.   You may think that everything someone asks of you is a top priority and you drop everything to respond to the request.   This reactive behavior creates stress.   While it is good to respond urgently to work, not everything requires your immediate attention.            Action to take: Ask questions about when it is needed so you can schedule it into your other work.   Tasks will come your way that are needed immediately and this action will create space for that to happen.   4-Not self-empowered.   This can be tricky.   Some people think they can’t speak up to management or take actions without being approved.   Granted, there are some times where this is true.   The problem is that without a certain amount of autonomy to make decisions and take independent action, you are constantly reacting and second-guessing.   It’s not a big confidence builder and is stressful.   Yet, if you are a bit timid in nature you are your own worst enemy.   You need to figure out the boundary conditions your boss has and this will help reduce your stress.             Action to take:   This will require potentially retraining yourself from being reluctant or timid so start small to create some confidence.   Start by picking out a  smaller project or problem to solve and then test your decision with the boss.   As new ones come along,   use each one as an opportunity to identify where the hot buttons are for the boss.   Ask questions and voice your opinions.   You will soon learn that you can voice your opinions and act independently on many more things than you might realize.   5-No time.   Huh?   It seems in life and work, few things happen exactly as we think.   Most of the time, people and processes just don’t get done when we think.   Traffic turns bad at the drop of a hat and people make decisions you don’t expect.   Usually, this means that your time will be impacted â€" in the wrong way.           Action to take:   Plan extra time into your activities so you can reduce the stress that comes with running out of time.   If you think it will take you 20 minutes to get somewhere, plan on 25.   If you think it will take you 4 days to complete a project, plan on 5 and schedule accordingly.   Even if you don’t always need the extra bits of time you planned for, you will discover that the occasional “breather” you give yourself will allow you to “de-stress”.   You will also discover that you will build the greater personal brand when you consistently deliver on time, every time. Life and work are never stress-free.   It’s just a fact of life.   Yet, there are things we can do to help keep stress at a minimum. Here,  Katy, TX guitar instructor Zachary A. shares some of his favorite classic country songs that are easy to learn and fun to play Country music has changed a lot over the past couple decades, but the classic country songs from the 50s and 60s still highlight the country music genre. The music written by Hank Williams Sr., George Jones, Carl Perkins, and Waylon Jennings was revolutionary. Each one of these artists has left a profound footprint on the genre, and paved the way for new country artists. Country songs are generally pretty basic, which makes them fairly easy to play when youre learning guitar. Most of the songs consist of three or four basic chords, and use the blues chord progression of I-IV-I-V. Country songs are perfect to play around a campfire, and sing along with your friends. Classic country songs have simple rhythms, but they are powerful, timeless, songs that resonate with listeners. Country songs are heartfelt and emotional, and perfect to play or listen to when you feel sad or blue. Here are six country songs that are easy to play on guitar. * The First three songs are from the legendary country artist Hank Williams Sr. Hey Good Lookin This song uses G7, C, C7, F, and D7. The song uses a few basic chord progressions, the I-II-V and the I-IV-I-V, all in the key of G major. Honky Tonk Blues This is another great song that you can learn fairly quickly. Its in the key of C major, and it uses the I-IV-I-V-I basic blues chord progression. The chords used in the song are C, F, and G.  This one may be one of the easiest songs to learn and play because it’s just one simple chord progression. Your Cheatin Heart This song uses a couple basic sets of chord progressions, which are pieced together throughout the song. Those are the V-I, and the I-IV-V-I, which repeat in the sequence V-I-I-IV-V-I. You will use the G7, C, C7, F, and D7 chords, and you will play the song in the key of G major. Blue Eyes Crying in the Rain By Willie Nelson Play this simple, timeless classic in the key of E major. The song uses the G#, F#, E, E sus, B7, and A chords. The song is mainly in two different chord progressions: IV-I-V-I-VI, which repeats and ends the second progression on the IV, and III-II-I-I-I. Mamas Dont Let Your Babies Grow up to be Cowboys Performed by Waylong Jennings and Willie Nelson This song was performed first by Ed Bruce, and made famous by Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. The song actually only consist of two simple chord progressions I-IV-V and II-V-IV. The song is in the key of D major. You will use the D, G and A E, B chords to play this song. Mama Tried By Merle Haggard To close out this list of epic classic country songs, I want to include my favorite country song of all time, Mama Tried by Merle Haggard. The song is in the key of D major and primarily uses the I-IV-I-V chord progression. You will use the D, G, and A chords to play this song. All of these legendary country songs provide a foundation to help you create and write your own music.
